Knife blocks help keep kitchen knives organized and accessible, although the latter may not always be favorable. Households with small children have to be extra-cautious in keeping sharp objects and other dangerous implements out of reach.

To address such cases, London-based houseware retailer Joseph Joseph developed the LockBlock Knife Block.

Made of durable plastic, LockBlock locks knives inside the slot via its Cam-lock mechanism. The Cam-lock tightens its grip on the blade the harder the knife is pulled. An adult-sized hand is required to release the knife because it involves pressing down on the push-button on one side of the block while keeping the thumb on the block's surface. The other hand is needed to pull out the knife while the LockBlock is on this "unlock" mode.

The product retails for $60 on Joseph Joseph's website. Customers can opt to get the LockBlock with the six-knife set, which includes paring, serrated and bread knives, for about $150.
