Kohler puts Amazon Alexa in smart bathroom mirror

“Mirror, mirror on the wall… show us apps,” smart home owners can now say. One bathroom mirror is now capable of listening to voice commands. The innovation, Kohler’s Verdera Voice Lighted Mirror, is the first of its kind to have the popular voice AI assistant Amazon Alexa in its built-in speaker.

To support voice recognition better, the Alexa-enabled smart bathroom mirror incorporates two microphones. Alternative control options are touch controls for volume and light intensity adjustments and settings on Kohler’s Konnect app.

What also seems magical with Kohler’s smart bathroom mirror, aside from users being able to talk to it, is that its LED lights know if someone is in front of it. It lights up automatically and can change to the appropriate brightness level when someone passes by. The feature is made possible by integrated motion sensors.

Kohler’s smart mirror might be the only current model with Amazon Alexa, but voice control is already a feature starting to be trendy in the product line. China manufacturers, for instance, have released smart bathroom mirrors that respond to voice commands to control intelligent home devices and can act as fashion gurus.

As regards presence-detecting LEDs, there are also smart mirrors from China that can sense people and are suitable for applying makeup.
