Singapore is now the home of the largest 3D printing factory in Southeast Asia.
Launched by semiconductor specialist Ultra Clean Holdings (UCT), which invested more than $3.5 million in the establishment of the facility, the plant began full operations on September 28 and currently boasts 15 3D printers. The factory targets the aerospace and the medical industries, and caters to businesses and consumers alike.
The factory actually opened nearly a year ago but only in a semifunctional state, according to Lavi Lev, senior vice president for Asia at UCT. The goal, he said, was to focus on utilitarian purposes rather than highly sensationalized innovations.
At present, the facility offers 3D printing services using 17 different materials, including gold, silver, brass and ceramic.
Individuals and smaller firms can upload their 3D models for printing at i.materialise.com.sg.
Apart from Singapore, Nasdaq-listed UCT has multiple offices in the US and Shanghai, and one in the Philippines.
