Broadening use in indoor and outdoor lighting spurs companies to increase product options.
China LED module makers are boosting the release of variants integrating 1W or higher diodes to meet a wider range of requirements in outdoor and indoor applications. They underscore the type's advantages of enhanced luminous efficacy and operating life span, reaching 80 lm/W and surpassing 50,000 hours.
Based on estimates, such units will have between 10 and 15 percent output growth by end-2015. At present, those with low- and medium-power light sources dominate local yield with a combined share exceeding 80 percent.
Fueling initiatives to expand the line is the "green" technology's gradual replacement of fluorescent lighting in the indoor and outdoor illumination, indicator and advertising segments.
The transition resulted in a 5 to 10 percent increase in sales in 2014 for domestic companies, which they expect to achieve again this year.
Shenzhen You & My Electronic Technology Co. Ltd, for instance, realized $1.5 million in revenue in 2014, which was 5 percent higher than the previous year. It looks to attain a similar growth rate in the months ahead. The manufacturer sends all its products overseas, including the US, Europe and East Asia.
Most mainland China suppliers are planning to raise overall turnout by about 10 percent this year.
Besides the demand boost in the local market, there is an upswing in exports. The majority of companies allocate between 20 and 80 percent of production for destinations abroad.
The upturn in requirement has also attracted more makers to join the line, with the number now surpassing 300.
All companies offer related categories such as LED strips and lights, with LED modules accounting for up to 5 percent of yield.
Production is still centered in the coastal provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. The first area gathers more than half of the enterprises in the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan.
