Hampshire-based Draper Tools conducted a study among 2,000 people in the UK to know how DIY savvy they are in light of the launching of a new affordable line called RedLine Tools.
Most Britons consult other people for odd jobs around the home instead of doing it themselves, many having the father as the requisite handyman. Fifty percent of the respondents stated that they watch instructional videos online for their home mishaps. More than half admitted that they disliked fixing things due to insufficient know-how, and feeling that they would just further the problem instead of rectifying it.
Three in ten of the survey participants have carried out risky electrical or plumbing jobs with inappropriate tools and were clueless as to how to go about the task. Around half do not know how to change a tire on the car when such circumstance arises.
Not surprisingly, less than a fifth of the respondents lacked confidence in maintaining a household plant based on their previous failures. More than a fourth had unwittingly damaged walls in trying to put up a picture. In addition, 44 percent pursued a DIY project even if though they had the wrong tools for the job.
DIYers, despite project difficulties, show that practice makes better. According to the study, the average person eventually get the hang of home improvements by age 29.
