This new normal trend has inspired UK-based company Binatone to release the "world's first face mask with integrated earbuds and microphone," the MaskFone This innovative mobile accessory was first introduced during the CES 2021 conference, and is said to be targeted to on-the-go or athletic consumers who need to take calls or want to listen to music, as well as frontline health workers that need to wear masks all times and be reachable for emergencies. The MaskFone offers convenience and protection in one.

The mask has multi-layer replaceable PM2.5 filters for protection and has the play and volume up and down buttons for controls. Housing the earbuds is a pocket sown at the bottom of the mask, which can be opened via Velcro. The earbuds can be manually removed; this feature comes in handy since the mask will need to be washed from time to time.

The IPX5-rated wireless headset supports noise-cancelling, can last up to 12 hours and has a built-in mic that helps enhance audio since voices tend to get muffled when speaking behind a mask. The device is also compatible with Google, Alexa and Siri.
