Taiwan-based iThinking Original Design has transformed the common household hammer into a compact and stylish tool. Its new product, a rhino-shaped hammer, was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter thanks to its visual appeal and size. Available in various colors, the hammer can be used as decoration in homes, study rooms and offices.
Besides its design, what drew attention for the Rhino Hammer could be durability. The project video shows that the tool can pound easily nails on wood and other surfaces like traditional hammers. It uses aluminum and carbon steel for the grip and handle, respectively, and stainless steel for the rotatable head’s surface. The rhino “ears” adopt rubber while the rear end has a magnet for stable attachment to the rhino-body housing.
Hammers already come in different sizes and are now often included in multitools. The rhino hammer, though, shows that upping design can make these tools easier to access. Instead of being kept in a toolbox, the hammer can now just sit on one’s desk like a paperweight, ready to be picked up whenever needed.
