Terminal blocks, which offer flexibility in organizing, securing and terminating wires, will continue to come in smaller and finer-pitch configurations as miniaturization remains a trend across applications. They come in types for mounting on DIN rails, panels or PCBs. In terms of termination, there are versions with spring or screw clamps, tab connections or IDC. The last one does not require stripping of insulation to expose wires, crimping or soldering them.
In China, terminal blocks with a pitch as tight as 1mm can be sourced. The range includes screw-in, plug-in, barrier or chassis- or PCB-mount, spring-loaded and DIN rail units with bigger pitches such as 1.2, 1.25, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 2.54, 3.5, 3.81 and 5mm. For vertical or horizontal mounting, they are available in two- to 60-pole variants designed to accept 16 to 28AWG wires.
Based on electrical properties, the choices are 9 to 400A rated current, and up to 1,000VDC rated voltage and 1,000mohm insulation resistance, with a typical withstand voltage of 2,000VAC. These connection terminals are rated to operate in -40 to 105 C. They meet safety standards, including CE, CQC, NF, RoHS, UL and VDE.
Customization remains widely offered and accounts for 30 to 60 percent of shipments from Chinese manufacturers, according to companies interviewed by Global Sources. As such, suppliers also accommodate buyers’ requests on using materials such as copper, steel, zinc, gold, PP and other plastic types, from domestic or foreign sources.
Input costs and terminal block prices are expected to stabilize in the coming months.
