Working on the idea that photos taken during group gatherings rarely end up in one album, a group from Slovenia has launched a Kickstarter campaign for SipSup, the first "social" drinking glass.
A chip--NFC for Android and visual ID for iOS--embedded in the SipSup logo allows the 16oz drinking glass to store photos and videos that users transfer via an app when they tap the logo with a mobile device. Another tap of the logo lets users view on their gadgets the media files that have been stored in SipSup. An unlimited number of SipSups can be connected to the app.
Designed in collaboration with local glassworks company Steklarna Hrastnik, SipSup glasses have a Vitrux certificate. This ensures that the glassware can be washed in a dishwasher up to 3,000 times, 10 times more than conventional glassware, and remain scratch-free. The certification also means SipSups are free of heavy metals. The glasses are expected to last up to 10 years.
