While many companies are coming around to the idea that virtual reality has a bright future, many are placing bets in different areas of the technology. Much of the attention has been on PC-connected VR headsets, but mobile VR headsets still have a place, though they are not as technologically advanced. They're a convenient way for news organizations and YouTube stars to give audiences a VR experience, though. They're also the best way to stream live drone video straight to your eyeballs.

DJI knows VR headsets offer a unique drone flying experience, so it has introduced the DJI Goggles. The Goggles have a 1920x1080-pixel display for each eye. The experience is akin to watching video on a 216in screen from 3m away, according to DJI. This should give people a better viewing experience than what's offered by just sticking a smartphone in a VR headset.

The Goggles can currently connect to the Mavic Pro or Phantom 4. Users can then use head movements to control the drone's yaw and camera tilt. Users can even connect two Goggles at once so two people can share the same drone flying experience.

The DJI Goggles will sell for $449 and will start shipping on May 20.
