In 2012, Nike has revolutionized the sneaker industry, just in time for the London Olympics, with the introduction of the Flyknit: a knitted material that is seamless, lightweight, durable and conforms to the contours of the feet.

The sportswear behemoth has now brought this technology to activewear, unveiling recently the Fe/Nom Flyknit bra. The sports bra has the same featherweight, breathable and formfitting features present in Flyknit footwear. It follows the shape of a woman's body, cupping each breast individually and holding it firmly without the need for additional support, including underwires, stabilizers, elastics and padding.

The Fe/Nom bra uses nylon-spandex yarn knitted continuously, cutting down the amount of materials needed from 41 separate pieces and 22 seams required in Nike's previous high-support bras to two single-layer panels with binding. The result is a cool and quick-drying sports bra that is 30 percent lighter than other versions from the brand.

It took Nike's Women Design team more than 600 hours of testing, including motion-capture and digital body scans, to assess how women of all types move, sweat and cool down before the group came up with the Fe/Nom Flyknit bra.

"The goal of the Nike Fe/Nom Flyknit bra was maximum support and comfort that would allow women to feel and look amazing while doing anything they choose," said Nike senior bra innovation designer Nicole Rendone in an interview with Vogue. "We prioritized support, breathability and cooling in essential zones."

The Fe/Nom Flyknit bra is now available on Nike.com.
