Plastics are widely used in the electronics industry for their insulation properties, and because they are durable, lightweight and can be made to any size or shape and recycled. They have excellent corrosion, water and heat resistance compared to metals and have a long life span similar to ceramics but are less expensive.

In China, plastic parts suppliers emphasize high product performance based on capacity to withstand elevated temperatures. They typically use engineering plastics such as PPS, nylon, nylon 6, nylon 6T, PP, PC, PET, PBT and LCP, and thermoplastics including PCT, PTT and POM sourced domestically or overseas, depending on buyers’ preferences. These are processed primarily through extrusion and injection molding. These parts are mainly for mobile and consumer electronics, household appliances, and medical, automotive and industrial applications.

Increasingly, 3D printing technology is being tapped in this manufacturing sector, especially for small-batch production. Like conventional techniques, it offers high precision, efficiency and flexibility to specific size and shape requirements. In China, Wenext and Dongguan Keheng are among the many Chinese companies already offering such plastic parts.

Parts that are 3D-printed have a growing global market presence. They are projected to reach a value of $26 billion by 2030, according to SmarTech Analysis.

Plastic part, overmolded construction
