Drawer slide manufacturer Accuride International has come up with the Senseon Secure Access device, an RFID lock that can be concealed in cabinets, drawers, doors and other furniture.

The “invisible” smart RFID lock is built into any fixture without compromising design. It adopts a lightweight RFID sensor that recognizes authorized cards held near the surface where it is hidden. The sensor automatically unlocks the fixture or door within seven to 10 seconds depending on how it is programmed. One lock can control a maximum of 15 storage fixtures and read five administrator and 100 user cards daily. It can also detect keyfobs. Holding force is 250 pounds.

The Senseon lock supports various modes, including touch release, soft close, auto open and standard. These feature gradual to quick sliding of the drawer, cabinet or furniture mechanism, while the last can apply to door handles.

The hidden RFID lock is said to be suitable for retailers and shops but it is not hard to see it eventually applied widely in homes. This adds another layer of access control security for shoplifters, thieves and intruders would find it hard to know if there is a lock to be tampered to begin with.
