Rigid LED Strips, a Green Linear Lighting Solution

LED technology is the energy-efficient choice and available in many forms, having been retrofitted or presenting entire alternatives to traditional lighting fixtures. There are rigid LED strips that are easy to install on straight and flat surfaces. Although not bendable, they provide the same illumination as LED bulbs and tubes, but are thin and small enough to be placed discreetly under cabinets, on wall and ceiling ledges and recesses or used as workbench, display case and showcase lighting.

In China, these linear light bars are widely available in emitted colors of white, warm white, red, green, yellow, blue and RGB, and standard lengths of 0.5 and 1m. They come in indoor and outdoor variants, with the latter having an IP65 to IP68 rating. There are also smart types that can be controlled via a bundled app and have motion-sensing capabilities.

Chinese manufacturers use SMD LEDs in 5050, 3528 and 2835 packages. Typical units have a rated voltage of 12 or 24V, beam angle of 120 degrees and a life span exceeding 100,000 hours. They can also be customized to suit any illumination and installation requirements. Most companies ensure their products conform to CE, RoHS and UL standards.

For inputs such as SMD LEDs, aluminum PCBs and adhesives, suppliers usually obtain them from domestic providers, turning to other sources only when required. Material costs have been generally steady, keeping product prices unchanged. Intense competition, however, have forced some companies to offer slightly lower quotes to attract more orders. This trend is likely to persist through 2023.
