Lock maker Schlage recently added Android compatibility to its Schlage Sense Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt. This means that the smart lock can now be controlled remotely by Android devices through the app. The product only worked with iOS devices before.

The new capability lets users assign entry codes for authorized persons and visitors, set a specific time when visitors are allowed to enter and get notified when the lock is accessed. Besides Bluetooth, the unit pairs with smartphones via Schlage’s Wi-Fi adapter for boundless connectivity. The smart door lock also has Apple HomeKit support.

As for the product appeal, the upgraded Schlage Sense may be more interesting than the usual electronic keypad deadbolt locks but it might find tight competition in smart home security given that many intelligent locks are now keyless. Just like Kwikset’s Kevo that has the keyhole despite being “connected” and touch-controlled, Schlage’s Sense is well suited to and might find more success with users wanting another way to open their smart locks in case lock batteries go empty.
