Security products future bright with smart sensors

Security and surveillance products are getting a boost from smart sensors, according to a new report by Frost & Sullivan.

Biometric, RFID and robotics sensors are said to be the biggest opportunity givers for security products. Fingerprint and face-recognition sensors and systems are becoming more important as banks and retail establishments are aiming for better security. RFID sensors and products, meanwhile, are hot in asset and personnel monitoring. Lastly, robotics is seen as the future of security and surveillance.

A few makers have started to focus on the last mentioned trend, for robot and security camera hybrids with improved AI via sensors, for example, already emerged. Some look like mini humanoids while others are even capable of auto-patrolling and taking selfies. Robot security products in different forms are now being adopted by more law-enforcement agencies.

Aside from tighter security and monitoring, IoT expansion in cities is another key factor in the success and increase of smart sensors in security products. Modern infrastructures need next-gen access and safety systems to match them, hence the high demand for those products and the sensors that make them smart. Frost & Sullivan reports that the Asia Pacific is the fastest growing market for sensors due to rapid infrastructure development. The business consulting firm says that sensors will continue to see high demand in the security industry through the next five years. By 2023, it predicts that the global sensors market will be worth $12 million.

The forecast hints that next-gen sensors are now must-haves to meet evolving demands in a market with a bright future. Manufacturers know this and are working on improving their smart home and security product offerings. Importers can stock up on those smart security products and benefit from the high demand.
