A Z-Wave sensor that makes smart home systems more intelligent was unveiled by LED lighting company Leedarson at the Integrated Systems Europe 2017 in the Netherlands.

The Arrival Sensor, as its name implies, detects when the user is within working range of a Z-Wave home automation hub. It tells the device to activate scenes, unlock or lock doors, and switch on or off lights and appliances depending if the owner arrives or leaves.

The unit comes in the form of a keyfob but can be integrated into smart home systems, as reported by CEPro. It runs on a rechargeable lithium battery that lasts a month but there’s said to be an accelerometer built in, helping prolong power when the sensor is on standby state.

Many home automation systems pair with apps or remote controls and operate on preset schedules. Some homeowners want handsfree control though, and schedules and routines are not always followed and can change. The Arrival Sensor can be a hit for those users and help home automation systems conserve more energy by making devices work only when they are really needed.
