The increased adoption of sensor technologies and components in robotics will fuel the rise of decision-making robots, extending the reach of such machines to more market segments than what it caters at present, said market research company IDTechEx. Robots that function based on sensory feedback will have a “massive societal impact” as makers continue to develop technologies for them.

Specifically, visual perception and force sensing will be key elements in robots. Vision systems will be a market of $5.7 billion by 2027, while force sensing will reach more than $6.9 billion, per IDTechEx. The former covers new technologies in image sensors and 2D/3D vision, while the latter touches on improved mobility in service robots.

In China, robots that work alongside humans are gaining traction. This self-navigating service robot from Shenzhen Tanscorp Technology Co. Ltd, for example, can imitate human actions and dodge obstacles.

IDTechEx noted that the adoption of said sensor technologies will not only be limited to service and domestic robots, but will also include industrial and collaborative robotics, agricultural robots and robotic drones.
