Smaller, Slimmer Slide Switches

Slide switches remain a widely adopted solution among legacy and latest technologies in the electronics, telecom, automotive and automation equipment industries. They have a growing market, which is forecast to reach $749.37 million in 2023 and $1.195 billion by 2030 or at 6.9 percent CAGR, according to Report Prime Reports.

Keeping up with trends in applications, slide switches come in smaller sizes and slimmer profiles. They have built-in ingress protection in varying degrees, depending on the intended use, and are available in configurations for mounting via through-hole technology or SMT.

In China, widely manufactured slide switches include 1P2T, 2P2T and 2P3T variants, with 6VDC, 0.3A or 125/250VAC, 12A rating, 20mohm maximum contact and 100Mohm minimum insulation resistance and 1,000VAC/min withstand voltage. They have a typical life span exceeding 10,000 cycles, and comply with safety standards such as UL, CE, VDE, CB, CSA, CQC, ENEC 10 and RoHS.

These mechanical devices usually have gold- or silver-plated copper or phosphor bronze contacts and terminals, stainless steel springs, tin-plated brass housings, PBT with 30 percent glass fiber or nylon actuators and UL94V-0-rated PBT cases.

Chinese suppliers continue to welcome customization requests and are working to improve their capability further to meet any specification. They use domestically sourced materials.

Fluctuations in copper prices in the past 12 months forced some Chinese companies to raise their quotes for slide switches. Manufacturers interviewed by Global Sources are hopeful, however, that the outlay for manufacturing inputs will stabilize and ensure no further price increases in the coming months.
