Smart home automation can be a pain for people who find themselves replacing all kinds of home products and appliances for the sake of having everything connected to a central hub. Sometimes people just want an easy way to turn something on and off, though. That's why an innovator came up with the Switch Bot and launched it on Kickstarter.
The Switch Bot is exactly what it sounds like. It's being called the "world's smallest remote robot." The tiny bot is a small cube that can be stuck to different surfaces around the house using 3M tape. When placed strategically by an on/off switch or some other kind of button, the Switch Bot can mechanically tap it with a tiny arm that folds out of the cubic bot. It is controlled through a smartphone app and connects via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The Switch Bot is a clever solution for people looking for some simple automation around the home, but it's very limited. With most light switches, for example, a single Switch Bot can either turn it on or off, but not both. Devices with a single on/off button instead of a switch can use the bot to be turned on and off. This could be suitable for things like TVs and computers. While this smart home bot won't be for everyone, it will likely be the perfect fit for those looking for some minimal automation. That's probably why Switch Bot has already raised more than eight times its $3,000 goal.
