Manufacturers and designers keep on growing ideas on how pots and planters will adapt to urban living trends, particularly to smaller and smarter homes. A few products have recently shown that they can be intelligent and modular, and more are emerging and creating a buzz. Among the latest in modular indoor gardening is the Lego block-inspired LeGrow by designer Haobin Lin.
LeGrow is a set of cube planters that are stackable and pluggable to form different configurations. Combined, the LeGrow units can stand tall or be lined up like toy blocks. Aside from the versatile design, what has been appealing for people are its growing and power-supplying features.
The 8.5x8.5cm smart modular planter integrates a 30mL refillable water reservoir that makes sure plants are hydrated, an all-around mist humidifier that keeps the surrounding area cool, and a height-adjustable grow lamp that shines six hours. These systems run through the power pot or hub that is said to have four USB ports for recharging smartphones and other gadgets. One port supports Quick Charge 3.0.
The LeGrow planter has already been successful in its Kickstarter funding campaign and will start shipping in August.
