Smart coffee grinder monitors bean freshness

New York-based startup company Get It Right has designed a portable smart coffee grinder that ensures the beans used are always fresh.

Marketed as the “world’s first high-performance portable burr grinder”, the Voltaire is equipped with IoT sensing technology and an accompanying smartphone app that show the user the freshness of the beans and give alerts when stock is low or needs to be replenished.

An add-on lets the user set up the app to order a fresh bag of beans automatically as soon as the stock runs out.

A LiFePO4 battery enables the burr grinder to work through more than three pounds before the next charge. On standby, the unit stores power for three weeks.

Voltaire contains a catch cup that minimizes heat buildup. This seals in the flavor, as heat can speed up the oxidation of the beans. The timer enables users to choose their grinding time, which can be also stored in the memory for future use.
