US-based startup Matrix Sleep is set to release an app-enabled smart mattress that monitors and analyzes a person's sleeping patterns, and gives recommendations on how sleep quality can be improved.
By adopting ballistocardiography, which the company claims to be the first to do so, the mattress called Matrix can track heart-rate variability or HRV, breathing, movement, stress levels and sleep cycle to get an accurate read not just on how users slept but even what activities they engage in during the day affect their slumber.
The Matrix smart mattress places emphasis on HRV, considered by experts as a key indicator of overall health. Via the paired app, it alerts users when HRV level reaches peak, meaning it's a good time of exercise, and when it drops significantly, meaning it's time to relax and rest.
As regards comfort, the mattress is made of copper-infused memory foam, which is said to improve blood circulation, and help relieve the body of pain and fatigue. The cover utilizes cooling and moisture-wicking fabric. And because all the sensors are integrated at the bottom of the mattress, users won't be able to feel them.
The Matrix smart mattress will be launched in Indiegogo this October. A twin-size version will be priced at $1,000.
