UK-based Pavegen released V3, a new and improved electricity-generating tile that yields 200 times more power than the original model the company has introduced few years ago.
The smart tile comes in a triangular shape that is said to maximize energy output, producing 5W from a footstep. It can also get footfall data.
Pavegen partnered with mobile platform builder Tribal Planet to devise an app, on which users can collect a digital currency each time they step on a tile. This can be used for rewards or donations.
The company has planned to use the smart tile in high-footfall locations. In fact the model has already been tested in the Paris Marathon, some of Brazil’s light football pitches, a London shopping center and some areas in Washington DC. V3 is said to be suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with the energy generated helpful in powering lighting and advertising boards.
