Smart shower recycles water

Netherlands-based Hamwells, a startup that has gained $1.2 million in funds for its e-shower that can recirculate and purify water, has started shipping its innovative bathroom fixture this October.

The smart shower filters and recycles water up to seven times, yielding 80 and 90 percent savings in energy and water, respectively. It also analyzes water use and sends data via the Hamswells app. Users can choose from classic and refresh shower modes, and listen to music streamed from a mobile device via the shower’s glass panel speaker. The high-pressure water flow can also serve as a massager while the unit also emits different scents. The shower is easy to install on standard hot and cold water inlets, floors and walls.

Makers of the innovative bathroom fixture are aiming to make it available internationally by 2017. The startup also has plans on reaching the US, particularly in California, where drought is a major state concern. The rise of e-shower and other smart home fixtures, including shower accessories that can monitor water use, and faucets and accessories with the same function or also control water flow is a good sign that these innovations are gaining wide acceptance and at the same time helps in changing habits for improving the quality of living.
