Bridal shoes often play a subtle part in a woman's wedding outfit, mostly blending in with the bride's dress and other accessories. This summer, however, being low-key is taking a backseat as several designers veer away from the coordinating and push toward eye-catching statement styles.
Heavy embellishments have become increasingly popular this season with designers incorporating beads, sequins, rhinestones and crystals. Luxury brands Jimmy Choo and Marchesa took it a notch higher by launching a collection of feather-adorned shoes. The latter's designs also drew crowds at the recently concluded Bridal Fashion Week in New York.
Heel ornamentation, meanwhile, gives prominence to Sophia Webster's selection.
In terms of color, blue has emerged as among the top choices. Designers love that the hue contrasts beautifully with a minimalist wedding dress. Retailers such as Emmy London and Freya Rose offer elegant bridal shoes in different shades of blue.
Classic pumps in neutral shades are still popular, though, with most brides opting for ivory, nude and champagne. Vintage trimmings such as embroidery, lace and floral appliques are still expected in several silhouettes.
