Manufacturers of functional fabrics are leaning toward "green", safe and stylish releases as reflected at the latest edition of the Functional Fabric Fair.
Sustainability, health-friendliness and futuristic appearance — these are the trends that dominated the recently concluded 2019 Functional Fabric Fair in New York.
The commitment to protect the planet is evident among the different technologies developed by several manufacturers. Responsible use of water resources is among those tackled with suppliers adopting no dye options to conserve water.
Recycling is also not enough, with companies launching biodegradable fabrics. PrimaLoft, for example, has release a line of activewear fabrics with organic qualities.
Performance is a top priority as well. Moisture-wicking fabrics are expected to be a strong segment. Yarns that promote wellness and do not irritate the skin are likewise receiving increased attention. One standout is from Scotland-based brand Halley Stevensons — a waterproof waxed fabric, which utilizes natural petroleum.
In terms of aesthetics, fabrics come in a variety of colors, textures and sheen. Glittering and shiny textiles were among the favorites.
