England-based firm, Ten Fold Engineering, is offering a twist in prefabricated and modular housing, an innovative and convertible building that can build itself.
Initially folded into a compact form, Ten Fold’s prefab building is delivered on site where it can pop up automatically real quick. The unit is said to unfold in just eight minutes to thrice its folded size. The prefab structure can be rearranged and relocated with ease. With various modules available, ranging from small to spacious, Ten Fold’s buildings can be used as a house, office or business space, store or leisure area.
Versions of the self-deploying building shown on the company’s website also boast expanding, retracting and articulated interiors. These can be upgraded into different styles. In addition, the structures are reported to be energy-efficient, having solar panels and batteries.
Structures like this emerging indicate that smart-installation units might be the next big trend in housing. In the US, an industry-first modifiable and transportable prefab home that slides into multitier rack was already rolled out.
