Top 20 electronics (September 2014): Power banks steady at #1

Since May 2014 when it first dominated the top 20, power banks has remained at the head of the pack, thanks to still-growing demand for "mobile energy" for personal electronics.

Within GlobalSources.com, requests for power banks information have risen an average 25 percent monthly over the past five months. YoY growth rates for the same period have a 418 percent median that September RFIs topped easily by surging 743 percent from 2013.

Recently released power banks from China emphasize slim exteriors and performance enhancements. To this end, Li-polymer cells are adopted in lieu of 18650 Li-ion types. Li-polymer cells boast 20 percent more energy than the latter in the same form factor.

Touchscreen mobile phones, meanwhile, posted the biggest gain in the YoY column. Product inquiries grew an impressive 20,436 percent from September 2013. Capacitive screens are a common feature among China-made units.
