EETimes looks at a number of PCB design tools.

ZentiPCB's Zenti Suite features several programs to make your PCB designs become a reality.

There is nothing better than free when it comes to just about everything, even PCB software. Just because some are more expensive does not make them better than free PCB packages found on the Internet. In this roundup, we will take a look at some past popular platforms, which are still consistently being supported and updated. One criterion is an update has to be present on the software's support website in the past two years.

First on our list comes from Mirko Bruno Sortini with his ZentiPCB platform, which features several freeware programs to help users design their own PCBs. ZentiCapture has an easy-feature tool set for placing parts or component symbols using the orthogonal locking and snap to pin. Once the schematics in the netlist form are finished, they can then be ported over to ZentiPCB.

ZentiPCB is a CAD-based program, which also allows users to visualize their schematics. The layout editor provides the ability to import components from a library and connect the pins directly using the cursor to the board, which can be single- or double-sided depending on the need.
