Vecaro unveils first UL-certified monster truck-style hoverboard

Currently the company is the only one that is certified by the US Customs to sell hoverboards.

The 1989 film Back to the Future II predicted it first—hoverboards really made it to the 'future' year of 2015, even being named by Time magazine as one of the 25 best inventions for that year. Two years later, hoverboards, which don't really hover but come in the form of self-balancing scooters and two-wheel boards, are still quite popular and prevalent in the streets.

On the other hand, the road has been very bumpy for hoverboards, riddled by controversy first sparked by batteries that suddenly explode. With more than 50 incidents involving hoverboards that unexpectedly burst into flames, shipping batteries via airplanes has become close to impossible, and restrictions and safety measures concerning labelling and packaging have been put in place. Potential customers have also been encouraged to ask certain questions before deciding to import hoverboards from countries such as China.

Fortunately for those who still want to get their hands on a heavy-duty hoverboard without fear of catching fire, Vecaro Lifetyle is offering units that are fully UL-certified. To this day, the company is the only one to have received endorsement from the US Customs, guaranteeing that models are fire-safe. In fact, since production, not one model has been reported to have burst into flames or exploded.

Vecaro is also the first company that has created its own mobile app to control its hoverboards. The latest offering, called the Trek X, is a monster truck-style unit equipped with 8.5in wheels suitable for off-road tracks, including riverbanks, and snow and dirt roads. It also adopts front and rear signal lights, and Bluetooth connection. Another model, "City", has similar features but designed for street racing.
