Cars have increasingly become computers on wheels, with advancements leading to the integration of infotainment and telematics and the addition and enhancement of security and safety systems. They are also moving toward greater connectivity and might be next in the shared mobility trend.

With such sophisticated on-board features, vehicles have also risen in value, making them even more attractive targets for theft. This has pushed up demand for car security systems, which include alarms, keyless entry, immobilizers and central locking. Valued at $8.96 billion in 2021, the global market is projected to be in the scale of $12.7 billion in 2027 with about 6 percent CAGR from 2022, according to Mordor Intelligence.

Like computers, highly digitized vehicles are vulnerable to hacking. Thankfully, the same electronics that run modern automotive systems are going through further product development to offer greater physical and cyber protection for occupants and vehicles alike.

“Major OEMs are partnering with software solutions providers for developing platforms that can augment the vehicle security systems with some human intervention,” according to Mordor Intelligence’s forecast report on car security systems.
