World's first AR motorcycle helmet gives riders a rear eye

Skully Inc.'s AR-1 model, the first motorcycle helmet that supports augmented reality (AR) is an intelligent motorcycle headgear that can show the wearer a 180-degree adjustable view of his or her back while riding. Priced at $1,499, the innovative product which was also introduced at this year's CES has been available for shipping since April.

Besides having a built-in rear camera and heads-up display, AR-1 can connect via Bluetooth, give riders audiovisual directions, show speed and play music. Some of its settings can be toggled via an app.

What's interesting about this AR motorcycle helmet is that it does not take away the rider's focus despite loading a lot of smart features. It does not block the rider's vision on the road with a semitransparent display. Its visor can adjust automatically its tint depending on the sunlight. Skully has just proved that balancing safety and increasing technology is possible in many ways, a trend that makers of motorcycle helmets could follow.
