US-based startup FYB London has launched recently a crowdfunding campaign for a collection of stylish handbags that integrate innovative features for women on-the-go. The project has taken Kickstarter by storm, raising more than three-fold its initial goal of $30,000 with a few days remaining on its campaign.
For starters, the FYB London smart handbag enables wireless charging of personal electronics with its 5,000mAh battery. It is protected by a TSA-approved biometric recognition lock, allowing owners exclusive access to its contents while deterring would-be thieves.
Users can also unlock the bag using a smartphone via Bluetooth, which likewise sends alert notifications when they leave the bag behind. An anti-RFID pocket, meanwhile, keeps credit card and other personal information from being stolen.
In terms of design, the FYB London smart bag is made of genuine leather, and comes in 16.5L city handbag and 21L travel tote styles, both of which have padded compartments for laptops, tablets and smartphones as well as specialized pockets for pertinent items, including keys, water bottle and documents.
Smart bags that incorporate the abovementioned features are not new, but the selection is mostly limited to backpacks and luggage. Add this to the fact that FYB London's crowdfunding campaign smashed its initial goal just within hours after the project was launched reflects a huge market demand for fashionable smart handbags.
The FYB London smart city handbags can be preordered at $299 while the smart travel tote goes for $339. Shipping starts in August.
