Xiaomi released this month in China Amazon Echo’s new rival, the voice-controlled Mi AI Speaker. Although coming in beta version, after being tried by a thousand people and upgraded accordingly, the smart speaker is set to make noise in smart home entertainment and automation.
What's most attention-grabbing about the Mi AI Speaker according to tech news sites is the product's affordability. Listing for about $45 when it goes on sale in China, the speaker’s price is lower by more than 50 percent than that of Amazon Echo and Google Home.
Xiaomi's new smart speaker is a low-cost version that can do what its popular competitors can. The unit takes voice commands via its six-microphone array, manages Xiaomi’s and its partners' smart home appliances and lighting fixtures like a home hub or gateway, and retrieves online content, including various information, audio, time, and weather and traffic reports.
Mi AI Speaker is not the first promising smart speaker from China, though. Early December last year, Beijing-based Linglong already introduced a Chinese-language voice-assistant speaker, the LingLong DingDong.
The rise of China-made smart speakers might become a big contributor to the country's local smart home market. Reports have found out that smart speakers have increased demand for smart home products in other countries. This can also become a trend in China.
