Models have adjustable speed and temperature, and come in different nozzle sizes.

3D printer pens have come a long way since their introduction roughly two years ago and China makers have made significant improvements in terms of functions and ease of use.

In this selection, models have adjustable temperature, which is critical when users want to switch to another filament that requires a different melting environment. Speed constraints are also relaxed with some models having up to five speed levels. Nozzles come in different sizes, measuring anywhere from 0.4 to 0.7mm in diameter.

In terms of filaments, ABS and PLA are the standard but photopolymers are a welcome addition. Temperature and speed are often displayed on a side screen. The lightest model in this selection weighs just 55g, making it easy to hold especially for drawing in mid-air.

Here are six models handpicked by our Market Analysts for representing the current trends in 3D printer pens.
