Amazon has sold the most number of smart speakers in 2019, while shipments from China manufacturers are also on the rise.
Buyers looking to source the latest gadgets in tech would want to keep their eyes on smart speakers for they are what's hot right now. Smart speaker shipments are expected to even surpass that of wearable bands in 2019 and in tablets by 2021. This is according to a Canalys forecast via voicebot. Another Canalys report indicates a 44.9 percent global smart speaker growth in Q3 2019. Leading the trend of AI speakers craze is Amazon, which sold about 10.4 million devices in Q3 of 2019.
Following Amazon's lead are China manufacturers, which even beat out Google's Nest in terms of sales. Two China companies sold 3.9 and 3.7 million units, respectively, in comparison to Google's 3.5 million-unit sales, per the report. These data show that more consumers are opting to purchase Alexa-enabled devices and also those from Asia manufacturers.
Why are smart speakers getting so popular? Ever since the debut of the Amazon Echo back in 2014, improvements have been made every upgrade, which have made these speakers smarter – and they are only getting smarter.
Aside from their ability to play music byvoice command, these Bluetooth speakers are the first step into creating a smart home. Alexa-enabled speakers can be connected to other AI devices at home. Users can instruct Alexa to turn on and off house lights, fans, aircons and more. Millennials, the tech savviest generation, find automation very appealing. Ordering food for example by a simple voice command gives homeowners the freedom to carry on what they're doing without having to lift a finger.
AI is progressing at an exponential rate, and Alexa devices top the list of the most sought after smart electronic devices of 2019.
