The paper industry has always been considered a major polluter, not only consuming a lot of forest resources, but also polluting the air and water sources with waste water and waste gas. We lack communication and communication, and on the other hand, is there a lot to be done to improve others, so others don’t understand us enough.” Zhai Jingli said.

Zhai Jingli has the hearty atmosphere of an authentic Beijing woman. After joining APP (China), she started from the bottom and stepped into a leadership position step by step, in charge of APP's 100 billion assets in China. She said: "I was always competitive when I was a child, and I didn't admit defeat. I wanted to be outstanding in everything. If I thought others could do it, I would definitely be able to do it." However, such a strong "Beijing woman" It also does not lose the delicate nature of women who are good at discovering and creating beauty. She firmly believes that the paper industry can also coexist in harmony with nature and coexist with blue sky and green water.

Plant trees first and then make paper

Like many manufacturing industries, the biggest problem facing the development of the paper industry is still the problem of raw materials. At present, although China has become the second largest consumer and producer of the world's paper industry, the shortage of papermaking raw materials is still the bottleneck that plagues the development of the papermaking industry. As early as the 1980s, the Chinese government began to call on papermaking enterprises to implement the forest-pulp-paper integrated recycling business model.

"After the Group entered the Chinese market, it first planted trees and then made paper." Zhai Jingli summed up APP-China's insistence on green papermaking in one sentence. When they first entered the Chinese market, they formulated a long-term plan of "building a circular economy model integrating forest, pulp and paper", and planted a large number of trees in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Hainan in the early 1990s. The factory began to build in 1995, and gradually formed 4 major sections of industry, culture, office and household paper. In 2003, a pulp mill was built in Hainan to complete the layout of "integration of forest, pulp and paper", and the total assets have exceeded 150 billion yuan.

Over the years, the unreasonable structure of raw materials for pulp and paper production in my country has caused serious pollution, mainly from the sewage from wheat straw chemical pulping. APP-China has not only brought new technologies and equipment, but also introduced an advanced green industry chain of "integration of forest, pulp and paper", including three links: ecological forestry, environmentally friendly pulping, and green papermaking. Among them, in terms of eucalyptus planting, through rational planning and layout, eucalyptus species and clones are diversified and matched with species, and the native vegetation is preserved as much as possible to maintain biodiversity.

In the nursery in Ding'an County, Hainan, Dr. Huang Wending, head of the Forestry Department of APP (China), told reporters that a eucalyptus tree grows from the tissue culture room to the nursery for one year, and grows for 6 years after being planted. , 4 years after the stump sprouted and then cut down for papermaking, 4 years after germination and then cut down a fast-growing artificial forest three times in 14 years, because the sprouting forest does not need to dig holes for planting, we can get the paper while reducing the damage to the soil and soil erosion. It is understood that APP (China) is already the largest pulp and paper enterprise in China with plantation of plantations.

By the end of 2014, 83% of APP-China's forest land had passed CFCC/PEFC certification, completing the phase target two years ahead of schedule. From afforestation to environmentally friendly pulping, to the production of high-quality paper products, APP-China has formed a green cycle of "promoting paper with forests, raising forests with paper, and combining forests with paper".

Green will never stop

As an active advocate and practitioner of sustainable development of the paper industry, in 2011, APP (China) released the "Green Commitment, Green Development" Declaration on Sustainable Development, committing to realize the transformation from traditional papermaking to green recycling papermaking. The paper industry is already a capital-intensive industry, and the environmental protection equipment is also a huge investment. Where does the capital come from?

In order to realize the green commitment and lay a solid economic foundation for the company's strategic development plan and sustainable operation, APP (China) decided to try to issue medium and long-term bonds. At that time, only central state-owned enterprises issued medium-term notes, and it was very difficult for foreign companies to issue bonds for financing. In the face of huge challenges, Zhai Jingli did not flinch. She said: "Everything depends on persistence, and often things succeed at the last minute." With the belief of turning the impossible into possible, with confidence in the qualifications of the enterprise and the paper industry With confidence, Zhai Jingli led the team to communicate with rating companies again and again through lectures, expert discussions, and demonstrations of profitability, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the paper industry and enterprises, and finally won a fair rating, which was an exception by the Interbank Dealers Association. Accepted as the first foreign-funded enterprise successfully registered. Since then, it has actively faced the questions and problems of the NAFMII regarding the issuance of the raised materials, and patiently answered questions and revisions over and over again, and finally successfully issued the first tranche of APP (China) 5 billion medium-term notes, which has since opened up APP's bond issuance channel in China. .

For many years, professional institutions have rated this series of bonds as AA+, which are called gilt-edge bonds. The Group's continuous investment in environmental protection has promoted the sales of bonds, thus obtaining more funds to invest in green manufacture. The results of the latest "Sustainability Survey of Chinese Manufacturers" in "CEConline" show that, if managed properly, green investment can benefit the company in the long run rather than just pay for the cost.

According to statistics, as of the end of 2015, APP-China has invested more than 9.5 billion yuan in environmental protection, accounting for more than 6% of its total investment in China. "Such a huge investment also makes APP (China) in a leading position in the industry in terms of energy saving, consumption reduction and cleaner production." Zhai Jingli said.

When the reporter and his party came to Hainan Jinhai Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of APP (China), they were shocked to see the huge factory buildings and high-rise-like fully automatic pulping and papermaking equipment from a distance. With an annual output of 1.5 million tons of bleached wood pulp, the mill is the largest pulp and paper processing base in Asia and the largest single pulping line in the world. APP (China) realizes the circular development chain of upstream and downstream industries and green papermaking in the enterprise through the integrated recycling operation of forest, pulp and paper, which saves a lot of cost of imported raw materials.

APP (China) has been actively improving its own water resource recycling system, and has continuously upgraded water-saving equipment and water resource recycling equipment. For example, Jinhuasheng Paper Company, a subsidiary of the group, invested a total of 530 million yuan to build environmental protection measures, including circulating fluidized bed boilers and supporting dust removal and desulfurization facilities, wastewater treatment projects with a daily processing capacity of 50,000 tons and 800,000 square meters of greening, etc. Among them, the newly built 7,000-ton reclaimed water reuse project has reached the top level in the domestic industry.

Green paper "dazzles" the World Expo

Looking back on 2015, Zhai Jingli's most unforgettable experience at the Milan World Expo, she said: "The World Expo has always been an important source of economic, technological, social and An important platform for cultural exchanges and cooperation, this time we are honored to be the only foreign-funded enterprise selected among the global partners of the China National Pavilion at the Milan Expo. We hope that through the platform of the World Expo, visitors from all over the world, including domestic consumers, You can have a deep understanding of China's long-standing paper-making culture, and you can further understand the real status quo of the modern paper-making industry."

The theme of this World Expo is "Feeding the Earth, Energy for Life", APP(China) as China The global partner of the National Pavilion has held themed photography exhibitions, corporate days and other activities. On the day of the enterprise day, the employees of APP (China) performed the arts with traditional Chinese characteristics such as paper-cutting, rubbing, and playing the guzheng at the opening ceremony. "The infinite charm of craftsmanship.

Talking about the original intention of green papermaking, Zhai Jingli has been engaged in financial work for many years and has developed the habit of speaking with data, she said: "From a long-term perspective, the modern paper industry is seeking to develop in harmony with the natural environment and ecosystem. As a leading paper enterprise, we have always insisted on promoting 'sustainable forestry' and 'responsible sourcing'. So far, more than 80% of our planted forests have been certified, and the group has 16 pulp and paper mills and trading companies have obtained PEFC Chain of Custody certification to ensure that the raw materials purchased come from sustainably managed forests.”

Driven by APP (China), there are currently many large paper industry groups in China. It has also begun to vigorously promote the integration process of forestry, pulp and paper.

In 2016, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China will issue the "Implementation Plan for Pollutant Discharge Permit System", which will take the lead in the comprehensive implementation of pollutant discharge permit management in the power and paper industries. Small and medium-sized enterprises add an environmental protection curse. Zhang Wenkui, deputy director of the Enterprise Research Institute of the Development Research Center of the State Council, pointed out that China's paper industry is facing restructuring and reshuffle. The measures taken by APP-China over the years have accumulated successful practical experience for the entire paper industry and driven the green development of the industry.
