Apple recently held its annual iPhone launch event, and after many leaks that have been going around, the company unveiled a trio of new handsets: the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

The XS and XS Max are significant upgrades to last year’s iPhone X with a Super Retina display, better dynamic range and wider stereo sound, and improvements to Face ID. The handsets also use the company’s newly unveiled A12 Bionic CPU, a six-core chip among the first to use a 7nm process, according to The Verge.

What’s truly notable however, is the wider screen-to-body ratio of the new devices. The 5.8in iPhone XS, while having the same screen size as the iPhone X, is actually smaller than the 5.5in iPhone 8 Plus. The XS Max, meanwhile, pushes the boundaries of the size of a smartphone even further with its 6.5in screen, even bigger than the 6.4in Galaxy Note9. The notch is also present. Dual-SIM is now supported, with both phones utilizing a single physical SIM card and an integrated eSIM.

Furthermore, internal storage capacity of the smartphones have been bumped up to 512GB, proving even more that users are relying more these days on mobile devices to store files. The same 12MP telephoto and wide-angle sensors can be found on the devices, though significant improvements have been incorporated by Apple.

For those looking for a premium experience without breaking the budget, Apple has also introduced the iPhone XR. It has a 6.1in Liquid Retina display, but makes use of an LCD and not OLED. The frame is also aluminum and not stainless steel. The company has also omitted 3D Touch, and is instead offering a new haptic touch system, similar to the trackpad on the MacBook Pro. The device will also be available in a variety of colors, similar to the iPhone 5C.

The iPhone XR, XS and XS Max will start at $749, $999 and $1,099, respectively.

While Apple unveiled three different iPhones, all of them have one thing in common: a wide screen size. Volume buyers can expect that large mobile devices will continue to become the standard and preference of many consumers, as technology becomes more mobile-focused.
