The Garden Centre Association in the UK reported that August was a good month for the gardening industry.
There was a 31 percent increase in furniture and barbecue sales in August from the same month in 2014 with YTD (year-to-date) change of 10 percent. This was attributed to informative sales teams that targeted the right customers, despite variable weather conditions.
House- and outdoor plants enjoyed a 12 and 18 percent jump, respectively, with 9 and 8 percent YTD changes. August was favorable to gardeners who could maximize the good soil conditions for extra planting, according to GCA Paradise Park sales Director Mark Gilbert in a press release.
Overall, garden performance increased by 13 percent from the previous year with 7 percent YTD. In other categories, gardening clothing rose by 8 percent, catering by 11 percent while farm shop supplies were up by 12 percent.
