Makers enhance softness, breathability, sweat-absorption and functional properties with their textile choices.
India suppliers of children’s bedding sets are emphasizing the use of better materials to boost competitiveness in the international arena. This endeavor enables companies to raise product quality and avoid intense competition in the low end.
Cotton remains the fabric of choice for most makers as it has greater breathability and moisture-absorbency than other textiles. Poplin, combed, voile, muslin, cambric, velvet, twill and satin are the common weaves. A number of suppliers also employ brushed variants for improved softness. Others use hygrocotton, which features heat-regulating properties. Viscose and polyester blends are utilized as well.
Both Aashirwad Exim Pvt. Ltd and IACS CR Textiles Pvt. Ltd offer pure cotton releases. Models from the latter are also enzyme-washed for a softer feel.
The adoption of environment-friendly fabrics is likewise increasing. Besides boasting anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic attributes, such textiles are grown in chemical-free conditions, thereby lessening ecological strain. Organic cotton is the top “green” option. The crop’s natural wax is retained during processing, leaving a distinct drape, weight and smoothness. Bedding sets in the material should be GOTS-compliant.
Materials are often sourced from the states of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
Manufacturers are also using dyes that are free from azo and other harmful chemicals to reduce health hazards. Additionally, products undergo metal detection, and colorfastness, pilling and strength tests.
In terms of visual appeal, suppliers are incorporating a variety of trimmings. Applique and patchwork are the popular choices. The latter helps cut costs by decreasing material wastage. Pleats, ruffles, lace, satin strings and embroidery are likewise employed.
Digital printing is also drawing attention as it creates larger and vivid patterns, and is suitable for mass production. Animals and cartoon characters remain the dominant themes. Vehicles, fairies, dinosaurs, marine life, jungle and sports are common as well. Several models come with stripes, polka dots, paisleys, and geometric and checkered designs.
Oscar Overseas offers reversible quilts, bedspreads and duvets in ocean explorer, ballerina and baboon motifs while Sava International Pvt. Ltd's selection includes polyester satin and cotton voile bedding sets in jigsaw puzzle design.
As regards colors, girls' bedding sets often come in pastel shades of pink, jade green, blue, purple and yellow. Versions for boys are available in darker hues.
The least expensive models go for $40 to $50, and consist of a twin-size bedspread and 16x16in pillows. They adopt 20s pure cotton voile, poplin or cambric, or cotton blends. Releases may be plain or printed, and adorned with patchwork, frills and piping.
Midrange bedding sets are priced at $51 to $60. Most are made of 30x40s cotton, although polyester satin versions are likewise offered. Models come with digital prints, applique, embroidery, pleats, frills, satin ribbons or a combination of these trimmings. Full-size bedspread and pillows are the typical inclusions.
High-end releases feature intricate designs and heavy embellishments such as stitched detailing and 3D embroidery. Prints are often computerized.
