Wireless power technology company Ossia introduced at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the Cota ceiling tile that can charge electronic devices.
The drop ceiling tile does not need wires or cords, and sockets. It only relies on Ossia’s wireless power smart antenna technology that uses radio waves, and the Cota Cloud to connect and manage devices. The tiles can sense via its receivers embedded into the device if the gadget needs charging. Besides mobile phones and tablet PCs, security locks and smoke detectors can also be powered by the product.
This and related innovations show that smart technologies are becoming more integrated to the structure itself of a home, building or space, and are energy-saving, a noticeable trend in smart living. Just recently, ceiling tiles that change design and play videos have surfaced. There are also already a number of energy-generating tiles that can harvest power from footsteps.
