Italy-based eyewear company Safilo Group has partnered with technology firm InteraXon from Toronto, Canada to come up with a pair of stylish app-enabled sunglasses designed to assess and improve the wearers' moods without making them look like a tech geek. The smart spectacles debuted at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, Nevada.

Known as Safilo X, the glasses are marketed as the world's first-ever brainwave-sensing eyewear and feature five EEG sensors embedded in the earpieces and the nose bridge. The sensors measure the wearer's brainwaves and send the data to a smartphone or tablet, which then provides stress feedback and meditation exercises through a companion app.

The smart spectacles also reflect the company's fashion sense seen in its notable portfolio of clients, including Christian Dior, Fendi, Gucci and Hugo Boss. The sunglasses will be available in a range of iconic styles and slated for releases this summer in the US.

Sanfilo is the third-largest frame maker in the world, behind the Luxottica Group from Milan and France's Essolir International S.A.
