More consumers are voicing support on a cleaner and earth-friendly fashion industry.
The majority of consumers in the US and the UK, regardless of gender and age, want a more sustainable fashion industry, according to a recent survey sanctioned by multinational AI-powered business online platform Notso.com.
The company surveyed 1,000 consumers each from both countries, with more than half voicing support on sustainability efforts in the fashion industry. The respondents were grouped according to age, ranging from 18 to 65, but this hardly mattered as the desire for environmental preservation were almost similar across all ages. The results suggest a shift in the trend, which has been historically associated with millennials and Gen Zers.
Among the consumers who want 'green' fashion, 50 percent said they would be more likely to purchase an item from brands they know are committed to sustainability while 28 percent would stop buying from a company that is not. In addition, about 60 percent try to keep clothes longer because believe it is better for the environment.
Although a large number of respondents prefer earth-friendly clothing and accessories, they find the high prices of these items somewhat hindering. Only a third of consumers are willing to pay extra for a sustainable product.
Ecologically conscious buyers also have a clear idea on how they want fashion brands to become more sustainable. Three-fourths of consumers believe that retailers should reduce the amount of packaging in order to be sustainable. Providing fair pay and good working conditions,using renewable and recyclable materials, extending the life span of clothing, and consuming fewer resources round up the top five ways consumer believe brands should do to help preserve the environment.
