According to National Hardware Show’s Industry Edge, the latest DIY trends are being fueled by the rising interest of homeowners in renovation. With this, different types of home improvement products are expected to be popular this year. Here are the trends Industry Edge sees for 2016:
• Home automation - Alongside smart appliances, smart hardware systems are what buyers are looking to upgrade to. Some of the innovative products many would want in their homes are smart bulbs with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, remote light switches, mobile app-controlled hydroponic and water systems, and automatic faucets.
• Emphasis on planting - Whether in rural or suburban areas, homeowners would like to have space for plants and crops, and even livestock. With the increase in planting areas, there would be more demand for plants and plant care products such as seeds, plant pots, containers and gardening tools.
• New paint styles - Millennials, in particular, are more inclined to using specialty paint such as chalkboard paint and other unique stains. Some even use stencils for design. Different paint manufacturers have already released paint trends for the year. One example is Dunn-Edwards’ global events and industries-inspired palette.
• Industrial-style décor - This trend which started in 2015 is predicted to continue. Edison bulbs or copper pipes and fittings will remain popular as decorative items.
• Spring as ideal time for DIY renovation - In preparation for summer, homeowners would like to improve outdoor spaces. Due to this, backyard or patio products such as fireplaces or fire pits, and grills and ovens could be in-demand.
