The engineered lumber industry is predicted to exceed $40 billion in 2022, according to Allied Market Research. Growth is said to be big since 2016, because of the trending "green" living lifestyle and the material's cost effectiveness.

As for "green" living, the Allied Market Research report shows that engineered lumber has become a key material in making "green" buildings because of its low emission levels. In fact, it already replaces concrete and steel. The regions using it most this way are Europe and North America, which can be good target markets for engineered lumber exporters.

As regards price, the research firm sees engineered lumber to be more "cost-effective" than the traditional one. A ProBuilder article says the same, explaining that engineered versions can be made smaller in size therefore suitable for the application, and quality is better: "The costs for solid sawn lumber are initially lower, but product quality issues can become costly for builders to correct after installation."

In sourcing, the trend tells engineered is the lumber type to go with. If it is good for earth-friendly buildings, it can also be big or popular in furniture and other wood finished products.
