According to ProductIP, 46 percent of samples selected for the recent market surveillance report for toys for children under 36 months did not comply with EN 71-1. The report cited several examples of noncompliance, including long cords that may result in strangulation, loose suction cups and small parts that could cause choking or suffocation.

Moreover, the report said 12 percent of samples contained forbidden phthalates. Forty percent failed labeling requirements.
