Tighter spacing between LEDs in screens contributes to a better picture quality, whether viewed at close range or at a distance. It is why fine pitch remains the highlighted feature for LED panels for both indoor and outdoor displays.
In China, manufacturers are working to introduce more fine-pitch LED panels below the 2mm specification. Companies such as Shenzhen Weigu have launched P1.5 units – that is, with 1.5mm pitch.
Product initiatives will include flexible LED panels as well, which have been getting attention in recent years and are forecast to have a growing market. Some manufacturers offer them for use in commercial and public spaces.
Mainstream LED panels have mainly 5050, 3528, 2121 and 1010 SMD diodes. These have horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 160 and 120 degrees and a life span of more than 100,000 hours. Units for indoor use typically have an IP30 to IP45 rating, while it is IP65 to IP68 for outdoor variants.
Chinese makers ensure their LED panels comply with international safety standards such as UL, CE, FCC and RoHS as well as domestic CCC requirements.
For components such as LEDs, substrates and adhesives, they usually turn to domestic companies. Some have the capability to produce their own LEDs, while others source them from homegrown suppliers such as Foshan NationStar, Shenzhen Refond and Hongli.
The cost of these manufacturing inputs has not changed much in the past year and will likely stay the same in 2025, keeping prices of LED panels steady.
