First in the UK: Hoover's smart appliances controlled by single app

The Hoover Wizard range includes a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, oven, hob and cooker hood.

Said to be the first in the UK, Hoover's new range of smart appliances can be controlled from one mobile app.

The washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, oven hob and cooker hood in the Wizard line can be switched on and off, and their settings changed via the Wizard app. The washing machine, for example, employs the app to let users know what wash program to select depending on the fabric type and how dirty the clothes are. The model has a 13kg capacity, or about twice the maximum load of regular washing machines.

The Wizard app also lets homeowners monitor energy use and receive alerts from the appliances even while they are away. The app has versions for Windows-powered PCs, and mobile gadgets running on Android 4.0 and iOS 7 and higher.

The Wizard range of appliances will be available starting August. Subsequent updates include voice activation.
