Designs are mostly influenced by the types of locally available raw materials.

Myanmar-made furniture represents the fusion between the old and the new. Models come in basic designs not just for a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic, but also because of of limited stock of timber, particularly hardwood. Since the majority of the country's teak and pyinkado supply is exported, domestic enterprises often do not have enough components for carvings and other trimmings. As a result, pieces are generally created in plain shapes and are only embellished when clients request for it.

Some decorated furniture pieces come in designs that originate from East Asia, particularly China and Japan. These styles highlight floral and animal patterns, including lotus flowers and dragons.

To lessen dependence on wood, other natural materials are utilized. Rattan and water hyacinth are the most common nonlumber inputs adopted, and incorporated either as frames or trimmings. They are harvested, dried and woven to create a wicker look. Most outdoor pieces, including bistro sets and lounge chairs, are made of these plants.

Models in basic designs and environment-friendly components are expected to remain prevalent over the next six months.
